Keep your forklift cool with our selection of cooling systems. Choose from top brands at competitive prices.
The cooling system of a forklift engine is designed to regulate the temperature of the engine and prevent it from overheating during operation.
Forklift engines, like car engines, generate heat as a by-product. The cooling system helps dissipate this heat and keeps the engine at an optimal operating temperature for your forklift.
The cooling system for a forklift engine is composed of:
- Water pump
- Radiator
- Thermostat
- Cooling fan
- Expansion tank
- Pressure cap
- Antifreeze
Proper cooling system maintenance is essential to ensure efficient operation and prevent overheating problems. Regular inspections, coolant flushing, and replacement of worn components are important steps in maintaining a forklift engine's cooling system.
Forklift water pump
The water pump is driven by the forklift engine and circulates the coolant in the cooling system through passages in the engine block, cylinder head and radiator to be cooled again.
Forklift radiator
The radiator is a heat exchanger that transfers heat from the coolant to the surrounding air. As the coolant flows through the forklift's radiator, the air passing over the radiator fins helps dissipate the heat, cooling the coolant before it returns to the engine, so the forklift operates at the optimum temperature.
Forklift engine thermostat
The thermostat is a valve located between the engine and the radiator. Regulates coolant flow based on engine operating temperature. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed, allowing coolant to circulate inside the engine to facilitate faster warm-up. As the forklift engine reaches operating temperature, the forklift thermostat opens, allowing coolant to flow to the radiator for cooling.
Cooling fan
Some forklift engines are equipped with cooling fans that help improve airflow through the radiator, especially during low speed or stationary operating conditions. The fan can be driven mechanically by the engine or controlled electrically depending on the temperature of the coolant.
Expansion tank for the forklift cooling system
The expansion tank, also known as the overflow tank, provides a place for excess coolant to expand and contract as the engine warms and cools. It also serves as a reservoir to replenish coolant lost due to evaporation or minor leaks.
Pressure cap
The radiator cap or pressure cap maintains proper pressure in the cooling system, raising the boiling point of the coolant and helping to prevent overheating. It also allows coolant to be drawn from the expansion tank back into the radiator as needed.
Antifreeze
The forklift's cooling system uses a mixture of water and coolant, often ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, to absorb and transfer heat away from the engine components. Coolant also contains additives that help prevent corrosion, scale and freezing at low temperatures.
